Established in June 1998, the University of the Philippines Manila National Telehealth Center (UPM NThC) works with different sectors in the realm of information communications technology (ICT) for health and development. The Center affirms its mandate of "putting health in the hands of the people" through technologies by linking health care professionals of the UP and the communities, especially, the underserved. Being a UNDP centre of excellence for free and/or open source software, the UP Manila National Telehealth Center hosts the ASEAN+3 Regional Node of the International Open Source Network.
The NThC manages three interrelated programs under the ONeHEALTH banner:
Goal Statement
UP Manila shall improve health care delivery to the general public through ideas and knowledge exchange utilizing information technology. Specific Objectives
MissionThe National Telehealth Center exists to promote the use of telehealth and related technologies in forming strategic partnerships with stakeholders in the delivery of services where such concepts are applicable. This shall be accomplished through responsible and innovative use of telecommunications and computer technologies. The Center aims to bridge the gaps between health services, educational needs, and community resources. Through the development of sustainable telehealth applications and through collaborations with organizations, health professionals, health workers, clients and the community at large, the National Telehealth Center will lead in the promotion of the responsible use of technology in health, ensure quality in its endeavors, and empower its clients through information and knowledge exchange. VisionThe Center shall be the premier center in the field of information and communications technology applications for health. Cognizant of the public’s health needs and the limitations of technology, the center shall strive to put to action health solutions in an environment without borders through teamwork, empowerment and innovation.
